About the Role

You will be the primary editor embedded with PlanetScale’s marketing team, shaping content before the timeline even opens and iterating through feedback until the cut is right. A typical day might involve trimming a developer interview for YouTube, pulling vertical clips for social distribution, and building a motion graphics package for an upcoming product announcement. The scope runs wide, so fluency across editing, animation, and design is treated as a baseline, not a bonus.

Key Responsibilities

• Edit YouTube videos across formats including explainers and long-form interviews, applying pacing and structural instincts that keep viewers watching through to the end.
• Cut and format vertical social shorts from existing footage, adapting the edit rhythm and framing to suit platform-specific viewing habits.
• Handle post-production on conference talks and live event recordings, producing both complete session edits and shorter clips for social distribution.
• Build motion graphics, title cards, lower thirds, and typography treatments to accompany every content format in the pipeline.
• Write custom scripts and apply AI tools to automate repeatable tasks such as transcription, rough cut generation, and thumbnail ideation.
• Shape concepts alongside the marketing team in pre-edit conversations, then move through revision rounds efficiently without losing quality in the final output.

What You Bring

• A portfolio showing strong editing across multiple formats, including YouTube content, short-form video, and podcast or interview material.
• Professional fluency in Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro, with real credits to match.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools inside a post-production workflow, not just experimenting but shipping work made with them.
• Comfort with code-driven video tools such as Remotion, or the ability to write scripts that automate parts of the editing pipeline.
• Background editing tech or developer-focused content is a genuine advantage, as is experience growing a channel or account independently.
