DMP Artist

Untold Studios is hiring a DMP Artist at their Toronto, Ontario studio. This role sits within the VFX pipeline and focuses on painting photoreal environments, textures, and matte painting elements that are projected and composited onto live action plates across advertising, television, and feature film production. It suits an artist who has a strong eye for light and perspective and is comfortable working closely with compositing and lighting teams to deliver finished shots.

About the Role

The DMP Artist works across a varied slate of projects, from commercial spots to long-form content, contributing matte paintings and digital environments that have to hold up at every stage of the post-production workflow. Day to day, you are building and correcting geometry for projection setups, sourcing reference, and iterating on shots based on supervisor feedback. You work within a close team structure where communication between departments is constant and critical to hitting deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Create photorealistic and stylised matte paintings that integrate with the established look of each project, whether advertising, episodic television, or feature film.
• Set up cameras and geometry to support accurate DMP projections onto live action plates.
• Build and correct digital environments with a solid understanding of perspective, form, and how light behaves across surfaces.
• Work directly with the lighting and compositing teams to ensure shots are delivered to a consistent technical and creative standard.
• Source, curate, and share reference material that informs the visual direction of environments across the team.
• Interpret creative direction clearly, incorporate feedback constructively, and manage multiple shots simultaneously against production deadlines.

What You Bring

• Demonstrated experience as a DMP Artist or Matte Painter across advertising, television, or feature film production.
• Strong proficiency in industry-standard tools used in matte painting and digital environment creation within a VFX pipeline.
• A solid understanding of projection workflows, camera matching, and how matte painting elements interact with compositing and lighting passes.
• The ability to work both photoreal and stylised, adapting your approach to suit the project.
• You must be living and eligible to work in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to be considered for this role.
