About the Role

ABC7 is an ABC owned television station operating in the number two television market in the country, producing over sixty-three hours of local news, public affairs, and magazine programming each week. This internship runs from January 2027 through early June 2027 at forty hours per week, with scheduling that may include nights and weekends. Day-to-day work spans content production, social media community management, event coordination, and internal communications across the full station operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce original digital, streaming, and social media content from concept to completion, including vertical video formatted for Instagram, Facebook, X, and Threads.
• Distribute community content across abc7.com and the station’s owned news app, maintaining scheduling and accuracy across platforms.
• Manage community audience engagement across ABC7’s social platforms, responding to and cultivating viewer interaction in alignment with station voice.
• Support internal communications including the station newsletter and digital informational signage, plus heritage month events and other KABC broadcast station functions.
• Assist in coordinating and operating ABC7 Street Team events across Southern California, interfacing directly with viewers, community partners, and corporate stakeholders.
• Build and maintain relationships with community-based nonprofit organizations that partner with and are served by ABC7’s public affairs programming.

What You Bring

• Current enrollment as a junior or senior at an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, plus experience managing professional email and phone communications.
• Hands-on experience using social media platforms to engage audiences, not just post content.
• Familiarity with vertical video production tools including CapCut or Edits is a strong advantage in this local television news environment.
• Experience with Microsoft Teams, Smartsheet, Airtable, or Google Docs is preferred for managing production workflow and internal coordination.
