About the Role

Reporting to the State News Director, this position operates within a regional television newsroom workflow where turnaround times are tight and the camera operator is often the entire crew. Day to day, you are out in the field gathering footage, conducting interview shoots, and returning to edit finished packages for broadcast, all within the same shift. Regional news production at this level means genuine variety across rounds rather than being locked to a single beat.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate ENG camera equipment to shoot broadcast-ready footage across news rounds including sport, politics, environment, and community events.
• Edit news packages to air standard, managing your own post-production workflow from ingest through to finished cut.
• Conduct and frame interview shoots, applying sound news camera craft to composition, lighting, and audio capture in the field.
• Drive to and from locations across the Hobart region, requiring an unrestricted driver’s licence at all times.
• Identify and develop visual storytelling approaches that serve the editorial needs of each story, contributing ideas to the newsroom.
• Meet broadcast deadlines consistently, managing time across simultaneous field and editing responsibilities within a regional television production environment.

What You Bring

• Demonstrated experience as an ENG Camera Operator/Editor in a broadcast news or television production context.
• Proven ability shooting interviews, sport, and community activities to broadcast standard.
• Competency across both camera operation and non-linear editing platforms used in television news workflows.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in a deadline-driven newsroom environment.
• Unrestricted Australian driver’s licence and valid Australian working rights.
