Nebraska Broadcasters Association is hiring a part-time News Production Assistant at WEAR in Pensacola, Florida. This role sits inside the broadcast news production department, supporting live newscasts across morning, evening, and weekend air times with hands-on studio and technical responsibilities. It suits someone early in their television production career who wants floor experience across multiple formats and dayparts.

About the Role

The News Production Assistant works directly within the newscast production team, supporting the technical and logistical side of live broadcast television. A typical shift includes prepping the studio before air, running TelePrompter or camera during the newscast, and handling post-broadcast tasks like video editing for webcasts. The role rotates across different newscasts, giving this person exposure to the full daily production workflow at a local broadcast station.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate TelePrompter or studio camera during live morning, evening, and weekend newscasts.
  • Floor manage newscasts, coordinating talent and crew positions on set during live broadcast television production.
  • Prepare the studio and set before each newscast, including lighting checks and maintenance of production equipment.
  • Greet and mic guests ahead of on-air segments, ensuring talent is ready before the broadcast goes live.
  • Edit video content for webcast distribution as part of the station’s digital publishing workflow.
  • Maintain a clean and organized studio environment to support consistent live production standards.

What You Bring

  • Prior experience is not required, though coursework or an internship in television production or a related field is preferred.
  • Comfort operating broadcast cameras and TelePrompter systems in a live news environment.
  • Availability to work weekends consistently, with flexibility for additional hours as the broadcast schedule demands.
  • Basic familiarity with studio production workflow, including set prep and talent handling.
  • Willingness to complete on-the-job training provided by the station.

Why This Role

WEAR is part of Sinclair, Inc., one of the largest local broadcast television groups in the country with 177 stations across 79 markets, which means real institutional support behind a local station role. For someone entering the live broadcast television production field, this position offers consistent hands-on reps across multiple newscast formats at an established station. The average schedule runs 20 hours per week, making it a practical entry point alongside other industry work or study.
