Actor & Performer for Thrill Theater

The Inkwell is casting five Actors and Performers for its Thrill Theater experience in Malden, MA, the first production of its kind in Boston. This role places performers at the center of a scripted, actor-driven suspense format where small groups move through 15,000 square feet of purpose-built immersive environment, requiring character integrity, real-time audience response, and physical performance across multiple shows per shift. It suits stage and immersive theater professionals, haunted attraction veterans, or trained movers who understand what it means to hold a scene when the audience is standing three feet away from you.

About the Role

Selected performers will develop and rotate through characters across The Inkwell’s first three original stories, building those roles from the ground up through script work, movement workshops, choreography, and technical rehearsals before opening. A typical shift involves multiple back-to-back immersive theater performances for groups of two to eight guests, prop and set resets between shows, and responsibilities that extend into content creation, venue operations, and community events. This is a founding company position, meaning the job scope runs well beyond the performance itself.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform scripted characters at close range for small guest groups moving through a live immersive theater environment, maintaining continuity and story integrity across each run.
• Rotate between multiple roles across The Inkwell’s three original productions, with sharp memorization and precise timing required for each character.
• Execute physical performance elements including crouching, crawling, choreographed movement, and short runs in low-light, haze, and complete darkness conditions.
• Enforce guest safety protocols and boundary rules in real time, stopping unsafe behavior without breaking the production environment.
• Reset props and performance spaces between shows and sustain performance quality through several back-to-back immersive experiences per shift.
• Contribute to short-form video content, pop-up events, set building and repair, and bar service as part of a founding team with a wider operational scope than performance alone.

What You Bring

• Background in immersive theater, haunted attractions, escape room performance, circus arts, dance, or improv, with demonstrated ability to hold character under unpredictable conditions.
• Comfort performing in confined spaces, complete darkness, and theatrical haze with sudden lighting and sound effects.
• Availability Thursdays through Sundays, required for scheduling.
• Willingness to obtain bartending certification if not already held.
• Comfort with basic hand tools, painting, and prop-making for set maintenance between and during runs.
