This role sits within InStyle’s social post-production workflow, responsible for cutting both rapid-response trending content and longer narrative short-form series across Instagram, TikTok, and related platforms. It suits an editor who has built a real track record in digital media post-production and can move between reactive social formats and produced editorial storytelling without losing quality on either end.

About the Role

This is a contract assignment with People Inc., running from August 11 through December 31, 2026, with potential for extension, and paying $45/hr at 40 hours per week on a hybrid schedule requiring three days on-site in NYC. The editor works inside InStyle’s social team, handling everything from raw ingest to final export across a high-volume daily slate of fashion and beauty content. A typical day means managing multiple cuts at different stages simultaneously, where a trending clip turnaround and a longer narrative series can be live in the timeline at the same time.

Key Responsibilities

• Run a dual-track social post-production workflow, alternating between quick-turn reactive edits tied to the news cycle and longer-lead short-form series with narrative structure.
• Deliver polished final exports optimized for 9:16, 4:5, and 1:1 aspect ratios, with precise framing and text placement calibrated for each platform.
• Apply independent editorial judgment to raw footage, selecting the most authentic moments and building cohesive storytelling from unscripted or loosely structured assets.
• Handle motion graphics, text overlays, music selection, and sound design within the edit to add production value without over-producing the content.
• Manage competing deadlines across multiple projects with minimal direction, interpreting briefs and delivering first cuts that require minimal revision.
• Own the full post-production workflow from ingest through final delivery, maintaining organization and technical efficiency throughout the timeline.

What You Bring

• 2 or more years editing social-first video content, with a portfolio that demonstrates measurable engagement and view performance.
• Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro is required, including speed and organizational discipline in the timeline under deadline pressure.
• Background in digital media or agency post-production environments where high output and tight turnarounds are standard.
• Working knowledge of basic motion graphics and sound design as editorial tools, not as decoration.
• Genuine understanding of what makes short-form content perform, particularly in fashion and beauty verticals.
