Job Position(s): Media Teacher: VFX, Animation & Editing
Project Type: Animation
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Salford City College Group is hiring a Media Teacher specialising in VFX, Animation and Editing at their Future Skills campus in Salford, Manchester. This role sits within the college’s media department, where the focus is on developing student output across film and media production, post-production workflow, and motion graphics from Level 1 through to Level 3. It suits a working industry professional who has spent real time in a VFX pipeline or animation studio and now wants to pass that knowledge on without leaving the craft behind.

About the Role

The department delivers a broad media production curriculum, taking students from foundational theory through to practical, portfolio-ready work in video editing, compositing, and visual effects. A typical day moves between classroom-based media theory, hands-on sessions in editing suites, and project feedback that mirrors real post-production workflow. The role carries genuine responsibility for student achievement across all three qualification levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver structured teaching across media theory, film and media production, and video and audio editing at Levels 1, 2, and 3.
  • Lead practical sessions in VFX and animation, guiding students through compositing, motion graphics, and visual effects techniques relevant to current industry standards.
  • Plan and assess projects that reflect authentic post-production workflow, giving students experience of how content moves from raw footage to finished output.
  • Use Adobe Creative Suite, including After Effects, as the primary teaching toolset across editing and VFX modules.
  • Track student progress and drive achievement outcomes, identifying where additional support or stretch is needed at an individual level.
  • Keep curriculum content current by drawing on your own production background and knowledge of how the VFX pipeline and animation studio landscape is evolving.

What You Bring

  • Hands-on professional experience in VFX, animation, or post-production, with credits or project work you can speak to directly.
  • Confident working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, with After Effects as a core tool rather than a secondary one.
  • Experience across video and audio editing in a production or post-production context, not just in education.
  • The ability to translate technical VFX and animation studio practice into accessible, level-appropriate teaching.
  • A teaching qualification or willingness to work toward one is an advantage.

Why This Role

Salford City College Group sits at the centre of a region with a strong and growing media production sector, giving this Media Teacher role genuine industry relevance for students and staff alike. The Future Skills site is built around vocational, career-focused education, which means the work you do in the classroom connects directly to the industry your students are heading into.
