Job Position(s): Compositor - VFX -- Compositeur.trice - VFX
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Cinesite Montreal is hiring a Compositor in their VFX division, based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. This role sits within the 2D department and is responsible for producing the final composite of VFX shots by combining live-action photography, matte paintings, and CG elements into a coherent, photorealistic image. It suits an experienced compositor who has worked on high-end feature film or episodic television productions and understands the full post-production workflow from plate delivery to final output.

About the Role

The Compositor reports to the Head of the 2D department and works closely with the Compositing Supervisor to execute assigned shots across feature film VFX projects. Day-to-day work spans keying, CG integration, set extensions, look development, roto, and edge work, all within a structured VFX pipeline. Cinesite is an international visual effects and animation studio with over 30 years of production history, and the Montreal studio contributes to premium-level film and television work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the Compositing Supervisor to assess the creative and technical approach for each assigned shot before execution begins.
  • Integrate 2D, 3D, and live-action elements to meet the quality bar expected on high-end feature film VFX productions.
  • Execute a full range of compositing tasks including blue and green screen keying, CG integration, set extension, edge refinement, and look development.
  • Perform rotoscopy and tracking as required to support clean plate work and element isolation within the VFX pipeline.
  • Manage your own shot workload and time, responding clearly to notes and action items from compositing leads and supervisors.
  • Communicate schedule and delivery status to production and department heads, flagging risks to deadlines before they become problems.

What You Bring

  • Several years of hands-on Nuke experience is required, used in a professional post-production or VFX studio environment.
  • Demonstrated credits on high-end film or television productions with a reel that reflects keying, CG integration, and set extension work.
  • Solid understanding of colour space principles and photographic fundamentals as they apply to compositing.
  • Python scripting experience is an asset within a production pipeline context.
  • Stereoscopic compositing or mono-to-stereo conversion experience is a plus, though not required.

Why This Role

Cinesite offers a hybrid work model, giving compositors flexibility between home and studio depending on project needs. The studio provides access to mentorship, training tools, an employee assistance programme, telemedicine through Dialogue, and ADHD support via the Inflow programme. For a Compositor looking to build credits on internationally distributed film work within a collaborative VFX department, this is a substantive opportunity in one of Montreal’s established visual effects studios.

Apply now for the Compositor, VFX role at Cinesite Montreal and bring your compositing experience to a production team working at the top of the industry.
