Job Position(s): FX Artist - Mid and Senior - Multiple Positions
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Rodeo FX is hiring FX Artists at both mid and senior levels in Montreal, Canada. These roles sit inside the 3D department, where artists are responsible for building and delivering complex simulations, including fire, smoke, fluid dynamics, destruction, and abstract effects, across feature film and episodic television productions. If you have deep Houdini experience and a track record of shipping shots through a professional VFX pipeline, this is the kind of role built for you.

About the Role

FX Artists at Rodeo FX work inside an integrated 3D pipeline alongside CG supervision, lighting, layout, and compositing teams to push simulations from initial brief through to final render. Daily work involves building and refining Houdini setups, managing caches, attending dailies, and incorporating supervisor feedback across multiple shots or sequences. The studio handles a mix of high-end feature film production and premium episodic work, so the scale and complexity of the effects work reflects that.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and deliver complex Houdini simulations, including Pyro, FLIP, RBD, and Vellum setups, that meet both artistic and technical specifications across assigned shots.
  • Manage FX tasks from initial setup through cache generation and final render submission with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Perform rigorous quality control on workfiles, caches, and scene submissions before they move downstream in the VFX pipeline.
  • Identify technical issues early and resolve them without waiting for escalation, including compatibility checks with lighting and compositing departments.
  • Participate actively in dailies, integrate creative feedback, and adapt simulations to match the visual language and pacing of each scene.
  • Contribute to FX department documentation and share tools or techniques with colleagues to raise the overall level of the team.

What You Bring

  • Mid-level or senior experience as an FX Artist in a professional VFX studio environment, with credits on feature film or episodic television productions.
  • Strong working knowledge of Houdini across Pyro, FLIP, RBD, Vellum, and SOPs with an emphasis on optimized, production-ready setups.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage your own shot workload, communicate blockers clearly, and meet deadlines inside a structured production schedule.
  • Experience coordinating effects work across departments, including layout, lighting, and compositing, within a multi-discipline pipeline.

Why This Role

Rodeo FX has built a reputation over more than two decades for delivering complex visual effects on major studio projects, and their Montreal facility gives artists direct access to senior supervision and a well-developed internal pipeline. For an FX Artist looking to work on ambitious, high-profile productions with a team that takes the craft seriously, this is a straightforward opportunity to do exactly that.

Apply now for the FX Artist role at Rodeo FX and bring your simulation work to productions that demand the highest technical and creative standards.
