This role sits within the social video team across Hearst’s Fashion and Luxury portfolio, editing short-form content for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts at a volume of 20 to 30 pieces per month. It suits an editor with a genuine feel for platform-native storytelling who has worked inside a publisher, media company, or branded content environment before.

About the Role

The Temporary Social Video Editor works directly with the Senior Director of Social and Video, alongside editorial, social, and audience teams supporting flagship titles including ELLE, Esquire, and ELLE Decor. Day to day, this person is turning around polished edits from provided footage and scripts, shaping pacing and text treatments to match each platform’s specific audience behavior. The post-production workflow runs through Frame.io for review and Airtable and Google Drive for project management and file organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit 20 to 30 short-form social videos per month optimized for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts across the Fashion and Luxury brand portfolio.
  • Shape editorial storytelling through pacing decisions, caption writing, text overlay design, music selection, and social-first editing techniques suited to each platform.
  • Produce fast-turnaround edits that respond to breaking trends, cultural moments, and time-sensitive editorial priorities across multiple brand voices.
  • Manage post-production review cycles using Frame.io, incorporating feedback from editorial, social, and audience teams while keeping project files organized in Airtable and Google Drive.
  • Apply working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Photoshop to execute motion graphics and image treatments that meet brand standards for ELLE, Esquire, and ELLE Decor.
  • Monitor evolving platform best practices and emerging short-form editing styles to keep content performance current.

What You Bring

  • Two or more years editing short-form social video in a publisher, editorial, or branded content environment.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, with working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Demonstrated understanding of TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts audience behaviors and content formats.
  • Experience with Frame.io, Airtable, and Google Drive in a production or post-production workflow context.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule with four days per week in the New York City office.
