Job Type
Nexstar Media Inc. is hiring a Photographer Video Editor at WRIC in Richmond, Virginia. This role sits at the intersection of field production and post-production workflow, with the shooter-editor responsible for capturing news footage and cutting it into broadcast-ready segments for both television newscasts and digital platforms. It suits a working journalist-technician who is equally comfortable on a tripod in the field as they are at an edit bay finishing a package under deadline.
About the Role
The Photographer Video Editor operates within the news department at WRIC, one of Nexstar Media Inc.’s 200 owned or partner stations reaching audiences across 116 U.S. markets. Day-to-day work covers shooting news reports, operating live transmission equipment including microwave and satellite trucks, and editing finished pieces for air and digital distribution. The post-production workflow involves assembling raw footage against scripts, applying audio and visual effects, and trimming sequences to deliver stories with the clearest editorial impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Shoot and edit video for broadcast news segments, matching assembled sequences to scripts and producer instructions.
- Operate computer editing systems, electronic titling systems, video switching equipment, and digital video effects units through the full post-production workflow.
- Select and combine the most effective shots from each scene to construct logically structured, broadcast-ready stories.
- Run live microwave, satellite trucks, and live Backpack TVU equipment for real-time field transmission.
- Confer with producers, reporters, and assignment desk personnel to coordinate logistics, shot requirements, and deadlines.
- Maintain video equipment and ensure all gear is field-ready for daily news production assignments.
What You Bring
- A minimum of two years of hands-on experience operating video editing equipment in a broadcast news or television production environment.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere, which is the primary editing platform referenced for this role.
- A college degree or equivalent experience in a related field such as broadcast journalism, television production, or media.
- Demonstrated ability to shoot and cut under deadline pressure across multiple concurrent assignments.
- Flexibility to work any shift, including overnights and weekends, as news production demands.
Why This Role
