Senior VFX Artist

About the Role

This position sits within a multidisciplinary art team working across AAA game titles at the level of production where VFX directly shapes gameplay clarity and player experience. Day to day, you are building effects inside Unreal Engine 5, working with art directors and technical art leadership to align visual output with platform performance budgets, and contributing to VFX pipeline development. The role touches everything from concepting an effect to optimizing it for console memory and frame rate targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and implement real-time visual effects in Unreal Engine 5, including particle systems and shader-based materials designed to serve both gameplay and visual storytelling.
• Develop performance-optimized VFX assets, materials, and textures using Houdini, Embergen, Substance Designer, and Photoshop within established console performance budgets.
• Translate gameplay concepts into effects that meet the creative direction of art directors while respecting frame rate and memory constraints across target platforms.
• Produce supporting 3D assets, UV layouts, and animations as needed to complete VFX implementation within the game engine.
• Participate in production and design reviews to ensure VFX execution aligns with gameplay systems and overall aesthetic goals across the project.
• Work alongside technical art leadership to identify inefficiencies and improve VFX pipeline processes and production workflows.

What You Bring

• Six or more years of professional VFX artist experience in the video game industry, with at least two shipped multi-platform titles in your credits.
• Deep hands-on experience with real-time VFX workflows inside Unreal Engine, including particle systems and material-based effects.
• Proficiency in Houdini, Maya or 3ds Max, Substance Designer, and Photoshop as part of a professional game art pipeline.
• Solid understanding of console optimization techniques, rendering constraints, and how VFX integrates into broader gameplay systems.
• Strong artistic grounding in timing, motion, color, and visual storytelling as applied to interactive real-time environments.
