It is a strong fit for a seasoned broadcast director who is comfortable in a high-volume news environment and already knows how to own the booth under pressure.

About the Role

FOX Television Stations produces approximately 1,200 hours of local news per week across its station group, and this position contributes directly to that output at one of the top broadcast television stations in the country. Day to day, the DGA Associate Director is in the control room directing live newscasts, calling cameras, graphics, and playback while staying locked in with the news producer on any last-second changes. Specials and other assigned programming also fall under this role, making it a genuine mix of live news directing and broader broadcast production work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct high-volume local newscasts live to air, managing all technical elements in real time from the production control room.
  • Coordinate technical requirements across the news and Engineering/Production departments to ensure a clean, on-time broadcast every show.
  • Support the news producer on all technical aspects of the newscast, including rundown adjustments and format changes during live broadcasts.
  • Apply both manual and ELC directing and coding methods across different newscast formats and production workflows.
  • Direct specials and other programming as assigned by the Engineering/Production department outside of the standard news block.
  • Work a flexible schedule that includes weekends, nights, early mornings, and holidays as required by live broadcast television production demands.

What You Bring

  • A minimum of 10 years of major market directing experience at a commercial broadcast station or production facility, with a clear emphasis on news.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both manual and ELC directing and coding workflows in a live broadcast environment.
  • A track record working in large DMA markets where the pace and technical complexity of local news is at its highest.
  • The ability to work effectively with news, engineering, and production teams under the real time pressure of live television.
  • Membership in or willingness to join the Directors Guild of America, as DGA union affiliation is required for this position.

Why This Role

FOX Television Stations operates 29 full power broadcast stations including major duopolies in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, giving directors here consistent access to large-scale live news production at the top tier of local broadcast television. This is a perdiem position, which suits working directors who want to stay active across live news directing without a fixed schedule commitment. The pay rate for this DGA Associate Director role is $54.43 per hour, with the final offer dependent on education, skills, and experience in accordance with the applicable DGA collective bargaining agreement.
