Videographer
- Full Time
- Mcallen, Texas, United States
South Texas College
South Texas College is hiring a Videographer based in McAllen, Texas, to join its Communication and Creative Services department. This role sits inside an in-house production unit responsible for short and long form video content spanning commercials, program profiles, and interview-driven editorial pieces distributed across YouTube, web, and social media platforms. It suits a working shooter-editor who is comfortable operating across the full video production workflow, from pre-production planning through to final delivery.
About the Role
Reporting to the Video Production Coordinator, this Videographer works inside a college media team producing institutional content that functions more like a small broadcast unit than a traditional marketing department. Projects range from on-location interview packages and educational vignettes to longer promotional productions, with the role covering camera, audio, lighting, and post in a single-operator or small crew context. A typical day might involve pulling a call sheet for a student profile shoot, running a field interview setup, and returning to organize and back up footage in a structured post-production workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Video Production Coordinator through all stages of production, including developing concepts, producing, directing, and editing short and long form video projects.
- Operate as camera operator, audio technician, lighting technician, and grip as required to meet production quality standards on location and in studio.
- Build and maintain production documentation including call sheets, shot lists, and equipment procurement schedules for each project.
- Conduct on-camera interviews with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and campus visitors, with a focus on capturing usable sound bites in field recording conditions.
- Catalog, back up, and maintain organized archives of all video and photographic footage.
- Transport, set up, and operate production equipment for field and studio shoots, including minor troubleshooting and routine equipment maintenance.
What You Bring
- Associate’s degree in Video Production, Communication, Marketing, or a related field is required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- At least two years of professional video production experience across field and studio environments.
- Working knowledge of digital Sony camcorder and mirrorless camera systems, with experience on Sony FS700 and FS5 Mark II considered a strong asset.
- Hands-on experience with field audio recording and location lighting setups.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet research tools within a Windows environment.
Why This Role
South Texas College offers a Videographer the chance to own a real production slate inside an institution that treats video as a core communications tool, not an afterthought. The in-house setup means genuine variety across production types rather than a narrow specialty track. McAllen’s position as a growing media and education hub makes this a role with room to build a local production network.
Apply now for the Videographer position at South Texas College and bring your video production background to a team that puts it to consistent, meaningful use.
