Job Position(s): Video Editor 1
Project Type: Film & Television
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Johnson Service Group is hiring a Video Editor 1 based in Birmingham, AL. This role sits in post-production, where you will cut raw footage into finished video content across multiple formats and platforms, handling everything from assembly edits through final delivery. It is a good fit for an editor early in their career who is comfortable owning the full post-production workflow from ingest to export.

About the Role

The Video Editor 1 works inside a cross-functional production team, supporting directors and producers on corporate, branded, and client-facing video projects. Day to day, you are in the edit suite building sequences, managing media, and refining cuts based on stakeholder feedback. The work spans color correction, audio mixing, motion graphics, and platform-specific formatting, so familiarity with the full post-production pipeline matters here.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cut raw footage into cohesive final edits using Camtasia as the primary editing platform, with After Effects applied for motion graphics and visual effects work.
  • Perform color correction and grading to establish consistent tone and mood across a project’s full deliverable set.
  • Edit and mix audio tracks to broadcast and web delivery standards, ensuring clean, balanced sound across formats.
  • Build and apply text overlays, animated graphics, and transitions that serve the narrative rather than distract from it.
  • Export and render final projects in format specifications required by each platform or client, and run quality control checks against technical standards before delivery.
  • Maintain organized media libraries and follow file management best practices so assets remain accessible for future versions or edits.

What You Bring

  • One or more years of hands-on video editing experience, ideally with a portfolio that shows range across project types.
  • Proficiency in Camtasia is required for this role.
  • Experience in After Effects is strongly preferred, particularly for motion graphics and compositing within a post-production workflow.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve is an advantage.
  • A bachelor’s degree in film, media production, or a related field is preferred but not required if your credits and portfolio demonstrate the skillset.

Why This Role

Johnson Service Group offers medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, and 401(k) benefits, which is a complete package for an editor at this level. The position gives early-career editors genuine exposure to client-driven post-production work with industry-standard tools and a team that includes directors and producers. For someone looking to build their editing credits and deepen their technical range, this is a grounded place to do it.
