About the Role

Vancouver Actors Guide is producing a character-driven short film project with a small ensemble cast, requiring actors across a range of ages and backgrounds. The Matchmaker features five distinct roles, each with specific casting parameters, and selected performers will receive character-specific self-tape direction before any audition material is submitted. A typical engagement involves reviewing character notes, completing a directed self-tape, and coordinating availability for production days in the Vancouver region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portray an assigned character consistently across takes, adhering to the director’s vision for the short film.
  • Review character-specific self-tape instructions provided after initial submission review and complete the tape accordingly.
  • Attend scheduled production days in the Vancouver and Lower Mainland area as confirmed by the production team.
  • Communicate scheduling restrictions and availability clearly at the point of submission to support production planning.
  • Deliver performance work that suits the tone and scope of a short film production intended for a festival or portfolio context.

What You Bring

  • A current headshot, acting resume, and demo reel or previous on-camera work.
  • Experience with self-tape audition workflow, including framing, lighting, and slating.
  • Ability to work in the Vancouver and Lower Mainland area for scheduled short film production days.
  • Match to one of five roles: Rowan (male, 25, open ethnicity), Young Akito (male, 13 to 18, Asian ancestry preferred), Akito’s Mother (female, 35 to 50, Asian ancestry preferred), Jacob (male, 30 to 45, open ethnicity), or Nate (male, 13 to 18, ethnicity should reasonably match Jacob).
  • Performers from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to submit if they connect with the character and material.

Compensation is approximately 20 CAD per hour, with potential increases depending on the complexity of the character being performed.
