The Technical Officer in Graphics, VFX with CAD works within Technical Services at Manchester Metropolitan University, embedded in a team that manages specialist studio spaces and delivers Technical Skills Sessions directly to students. Day to day, this means supporting work across motion graphics, compositing, visual effects production, and CAD modelling, from early concept through to production-ready outputs. The role spans a customer-facing environment where you are advising students and academics on industry-standard tools and workflows at a working production level.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver Technical Skills Sessions covering VFX pipeline fundamentals, including node-based compositing, keyframe animation, and motion tracking using After Effects and equivalent tools.
• Provide hands-on technical support for CAD production work using Vectorworks and SketchUp across design and pre-visualisation projects.
• Maintain and manage specialist studio spaces and equipment to ensure they meet production-standard requirements for graphics and visual effects work.
• Support students through the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite, with particular depth in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign for graphic design and motion graphics output.
• Advise academics on the technical delivery of graphics and VFX-focused curricula, ensuring alignment with current post-production workflow practices.
• Demonstrate and instruct technical processes to a high standard, adapting guidance for students at different stages of their production training.

What You Bring

• Demonstrable professional experience in VFX production, motion graphics, or graphic design within a broadcast, post-production, or studio environment.
• Working knowledge of After Effects and equivalent compositing or animation tools used in professional visual effects pipelines.
• Proficiency in CAD software, specifically Vectorworks and SketchUp, applied to production or design contexts.
• Competency across the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
• Experience instructing or demonstrating technical processes to others in a production or educational setting.
