It suits a student with a genuine interest in sports media production who wants real camera and post-production workflow experience before graduating.
About the Role
The Student Athletics Videographer & Editor works directly under the Student Athletics Video Manager, contributing to a production pipeline that delivers game day content on tight turnaround schedules. On any given event day, this person is on the sideline or in the stands capturing game action, crowd atmosphere, and celebration footage, then moving into post to cut that material against pre-built templates in Adobe Premiere Pro. The output feeds Defender Athletics marketing across multiple platforms, giving this role a clear and measurable place in the sports videography workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate university camera equipment at assigned Dordt University athletic events, capturing game action, crowd atmosphere, and supporting footage to established production standards.
- Edit short-form sports videos in Adobe Premiere Pro using department-approved templates and post-production workflow.
- Produce game day hype videos, highlight reels, and immediate turnaround clips on schedule following live events.
- Meet quick-turnaround deadlines inherent to live sports media production, including edits completed the same evening as events.
- Organize and maintain project footage and media assets according to the department’s asset management system.
- Support additional athletics video production projects as assigned by the Student Athletics Video Manager.
What You Bring
- Must be eligible for work-study employment and available a minimum of five hours per week during the school year.
- Basic hands-on experience with Adobe Premiere Pro or comparable non-linear editing software.
- Foundational understanding of camera operation, with formal training provided by the department.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends throughout athletic seasons, as live event coverage demands.
- Strong organizational habits and the ability to manage media assets across multiple concurrent projects.
Why This Role
Dordt University offers a working sports videography environment where a student can build a real production credit list across multiple athletic disciplines within a single season. The role covers the full short-form production cycle, from field acquisition through post-production workflow, which is directly transferable experience for anyone pursuing sports media or broadcast production careers.
