Festybay is hiring a Senior VFX Artist for their new games studio based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. This role sits at the centre of real-time VFX production, responsible for designing, building, and optimising visual effects systems for a next-generation mobile title built in Unity. It suits a mid-to-senior VFX artist with a strong mobile game development background who can move comfortably between creative direction and technical problem-solving within a live production pipeline.

About the Role

The Senior VFX Artist joins Festybay’s games studio at a foundational stage, meaning the decisions made here will shape the VFX pipeline and visual language for the title long-term. Day-to-day work involves creating particle systems, shaders, and real-time effects directly in Unity, then working through the constraints of mobile platform optimisation to get them shipping. This is a hands-on production role, not a supervisory one, though ownership of VFX standards across the project is expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and author real-time visual effects using Unity’s VFX Graph and Particle System, maintaining visual quality within mobile performance budgets.
  • Establish and document VFX production standards to ensure consistency across all effects delivered for the title.
  • Profile and optimise VFX assets for mobile GPU and CPU constraints, including draw call reduction, texture atlasing, and shader complexity management.
  • Work directly with art directors and technical artists to align effects work with the game’s overall visual direction and rendering pipeline.
  • Review and give notes on VFX work produced by other artists, maintaining quality bar across the department.
  • Identify and resolve technical bottlenecks in the real-time VFX workflow before they reach production-critical stages.

What You Bring

  • Four or more years of shipped VFX work in mobile game development, with a portfolio demonstrating real-time effects under platform constraints.
  • Deep working knowledge of Unity, specifically VFX Graph, Shuriken Particle System, and Shader Graph.
  • Demonstrated experience optimising effects for iOS and Android within tight performance targets.
  • Proficiency in texture creation tools such as Photoshop or Substance, used in direct support of VFX asset production.
  • A portfolio with credited shipped mobile titles that shows range across combat, environmental, and UI effects work.
