Jobgether
Jobgether is hiring a Staff VFX Artist to work remotely within the United States on behalf of a partner studio building a stylized new game world from the ground up. This role sits squarely inside the VFX department, responsible for creating both 2D and 3D effects that define how characters, mechanics, and environments read and feel in real time within an Unreal Engine pipeline. It is a strong fit for a senior game VFX specialist with deep Niagara experience who wants ownership over both the artistic output and the technical systems that support it.
About the Role
The Staff VFX Artist works directly with Creative Directors and Art Directors to shape the visual language of effects across the project, from combat and ability readability to environmental atmosphere and character identity. Day to day, this means building production-ready effects in Unreal Engine, solving rendering challenges, and converting those solutions into reusable workflows that the broader VFX team can build on. The role carries real influence over VFX direction within assigned areas, including asset reviews and technical documentation that set the quality standard for the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Author stylized 2D and 3D visual effects in Unreal Engine using Niagara, custom material networks, sprite sheets, and post-process techniques that serve both artistic goals and gameplay readability.
- Work with Creative Directors, Art Directors, and design leads to define how VFX contribute to game feel, mechanics clarity, and character identity at a systems level.
- Take ownership of complex rendering and VFX pipeline challenges, developing scalable solutions including VAT-based physics simulations and deferred and forward rendering approaches.
- Establish and document VFX workflows, technical standards, and best practices that improve production efficiency across the team.
- Review and approve VFX assets against visual quality benchmarks, technical requirements, and the project’s stylized art direction.
- Optimize effects for performance and scalability without sacrificing visual intent across all target platforms.
What You Bring
- Eight or more years of professional VFX experience within the video game industry, with a portfolio showing stylized effects and ownership of VFX direction on shipped or in-production titles.
- Deep hands-on expertise in Unreal Engine and Niagara, including Blueprints, shaders, and post-process pipelines.
- Working knowledge of Houdini, Substance Designer, and Maya as part of a production VFX pipeline.
- Strong grounding in color theory, lighting, and stylization as they apply to real-time game environments.
- Proven ability to communicate technical and artistic direction clearly to cross-discipline stakeholders including design and engineering teams.
Why This Role
This is a ground-floor opportunity on an original game project with room to shape VFX direction rather than inherit it, which is rare at the staff level. The compensation is serious: the annual salary range is $152,000 to $198,000 USD, plus equity, and medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100% of monthly plan costs covered. Jobgether and its partner studio are structured to give experienced artists meaningful ownership rather than execution-only work.
