Senior FX artist – Temporary contract

Rodeo FX is hiring a Senior FX Artist on a temporary contract basis at their Paris, France studio. This role sits within the 3D pipeline and FX department, responsible for producing photorealistic simulations including fire, smoke, destruction, fluids, and abstract effects for live-action visual effects productions. It is a strong fit for a seasoned Houdini generalist who has built their credits on feature film or episodic television VFX work, not feature animation.

About the Role

The Senior FX Artist works inside Rodeo FX’s established VFX pipeline, collaborating directly with FX leads, CG supervisors, and adjacent departments including lighting and compositing. Day to day, this means owning FX shots from initial sim setup through cache delivery, attending dailies, and iterating on feedback against tight production schedules. The work is photorealistic live-action VFX, where technical precision and creative judgment carry equal weight.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and deliver complex simulations using Houdini’s Pyro, FLIP, RBD, and Vellum solvers, optimized for production rendering and downstream use.
• Manage FX tasks with a high degree of autonomy, from early lookdev through to final cache submission, meeting internal technical conventions at each stage.
• Perform quality control on workfiles, caches, and scene structure before submitting shots for review.
• Identify technical issues early and provide solutions that keep shots moving without creating problems for lighting, layout, or compositing.
• Communicate schedule risks, estimation changes, and technical limitations clearly to production and FX supervision in real time.
• Contribute to FX department documentation and share techniques or pipeline tools with colleagues as part of ongoing knowledge transfer.

What You Bring

• Senior-level Houdini experience with a demonstrable reel covering photorealistic simulations across multiple effect types.
• Solid command of Houdini SOPs alongside simulation workflows in Pyro, FLIP, RBD, and Vellum.
• Credits in live-action feature film production or episodic television VFX, feature animation experience will not be considered for this role.
• Ability to work within an established VFX pipeline, integrating with rendering and compositing teams without disrupting downstream workflows.
• Fluency in French or English sufficient for daily production communication with a cross-disciplinary team.
