About the Role

The Senior Creature & Character Animator works closely with animation leads, rigging teams, and pipeline TDs to move shots from blocking through to final polish on story-driven, effects-heavy productions. Day to day, that means interpreting briefs, hitting review cycles, and maintaining physical believability across complex character rigs in Maya. This is a production-floor role with real deadlines, not a research or development position.

Key Responsibilities

• Animate photoreal creatures and digital characters across full shot sequences, maintaining consistent weight, physicality, and performance from blocking to final delivery.
• Collaborate directly with animation leads to interpret shot briefs and align work with the overall character and narrative direction of each sequence.
• Liaise with rigging and pipeline teams to flag technical issues, provide notes on rig behavior, and ensure animation assets are delivered in the correct formats for downstream VFX work.
• Contribute to internal animation reviews, offering and receiving feedback in the context of large-scale feature film production standards.
• Work across distributed teams in a deadline-driven post-production workflow, managing your own shot load and communicating clearly on priorities and blockers.
• Uphold production quality standards for physically grounded motion, ensuring creature and character work integrates convincingly with live-action plates.

What You Bring

• Substantial professional experience as a character or creature animator within a VFX studio or animation studio environment, with senior-level credits on film or episodic television.
• Advanced proficiency in Maya as your primary animation tool, including strong working knowledge of graph editor and nonlinear animation workflows.
• A reel demonstrating photoreal creature or digital character work, ideally across a range of shot types and complexity levels.
• Practical experience working within structured VFX pipelines, including familiarity with shot tracking tools and asset management systems.
• Ability to work effectively across time zones and with remote teams on large productions.
