Senior CG Lighting Artist

Flying Bark Productions is hiring a Senior CG Lighting Artist based in Sydney, New South Wales. This role sits within the CG department and is responsible for lighting and rendering shots across animated feature and episodic productions, working to a creative brief set by the VFX Supervisor and handing off to compositing. About the Role

The Senior CG Lighting Artist joins a studio with an active slate that includes a Netflix Ghostbusters animated series, a Stranger Things animated series, a Disney 2D project, and the upcoming animated feature film Zac Power. Day to day, you are lighting and rendering shots in Arnold via Katana, building pre-composite trees in Nuke, and working closely with compositors to carry shots through to final. Production quotas and shot consistency sit squarely in your hands, and the visual targets lean toward graphic stylisation of reality rather than photorealism.

Key Responsibilities

• Light and render shots using Arnold within a Katana-based VFX pipeline, maintaining visual consistency across the full sequence.
• Build and manage pre-composite trees in Nuke that combine rendered elements ready for the compositing department.
• Interpret creative briefs from the VFX Supervisor, whether verbal or visual, and translate them accurately into finished lighting work.
• Optimise and troubleshoot lighting and rendering issues to keep shots moving through the pipeline within production deadlines.
• Collaborate directly with compositors to bring shots from lighting through to final, tracking against timing and quota targets set by production coordinators.
• Anticipate and flag potential technical or creative problems with assigned shots before they become pipeline bottlenecks.

What You Bring

• A minimum of four years production experience in 3D animated feature film or animated episodic television.
• A portfolio demonstrating stylised CG work, referenced against titles such as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Arcane, Entergalactic, or The Witness from Love Death and Robots.
• Hands-on experience lighting and rendering with Arnold using Katana as the primary lighting application.
• Working knowledge of Nuke sufficient to construct and manage pre-composite render element trees.
• Proven ability to self-manage shot loads and meet deadlines within an episodic or feature animation production schedule.
