Senior Animation Artist – Temporary Contract

Job Position(s): Senior Animation Artist - Temporary Contract

Rodeo FX is hiring a Senior Animation Artist on a temporary contract basis in Montreal, Canada. This role sits within the animation department and focuses on delivering hyper-realistic creature and character performances that hold up through the full VFX pipeline and into final picture. It suits an experienced animator with feature film or high-end episodic television credits who can own a shot from blocking through polish with minimal hand-holding.

About the Role

You will be embedded in the animation department at Rodeo FX, a studio with a strong track record across feature film production and prestige television projects. Day to day, that means attending dailies, responding to supervisor notes, and moving shots through the animation pipeline from initial pose work to export-ready deliverables. You will work alongside Animation Leads and Supervisors, coordinating with rigging and other downstream departments to keep shots moving cleanly through the production workflow.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver polished shot animation across a range of performance types, including realistic creature work, mechanical objects, and stylized characters, meeting both creative and technical specifications.
• Apply a strong command of core animation principles including timing, weight, arcs, and posing to build believable and expressive performances.
• Interpret creative direction and reference materials to make deliberate motion choices that serve the shot’s storytelling needs.
• Ensure all animation output is clean, properly named, and structured to meet pipeline standards before handoff to downstream departments.
• Identify and troubleshoot rig or scene issues in collaboration with the technical team, flagging problems early rather than absorbing delays silently.
• Participate actively in reviews, present work clearly to leads and supervisors, and integrate feedback constructively across revision rounds.

What You Bring

• Several years of professional animation experience in a VFX studio or animation studio environment, with credits on feature film or high-end episodic television.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Maya, with a working knowledge of animation pipeline tools and scene management practices.
• A reel that shows range across creature performance, character animation, or object dynamics at a hyper-realistic quality bar.
• Ability to manage your own shot load, provide accurate time estimates, and communicate proactively when timelines shift.
• Comfort sharing techniques and approaches with peers as part of a collaborative studio culture.

Why This Role

Rodeo FX has built a reputation for high-end creature and character work across major film and television productions, and this contract puts you inside that production workflow on active projects. For a Senior Animation Artist looking to work at that quality level in Montreal, this is a direct path into a studio that takes animation craft seriously at every stage of production.
