A24 is hiring a Junior Counsel for its film business and legal affairs team in Los Angeles. This role sits at the center of A24’s film slate operations, covering everything from drafting development and production agreements to managing outside counsel across feature film productions. About the Role

The Junior Counsel position sits within A24’s in-house legal team in West Hollywood, working across the full lifecycle of film development and distribution. Day-to-day work involves drafting and negotiating agreements for writers, directors, producers, and talent, reviewing chain-of-title documentation, and coordinating with guild and immigration counsel. The breadth of A24’s current slate means this person will be across multiple projects at any given time, from early development through distribution.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate rights, writing, producing, directing, and acting agreements, as well as certificates of engagement, across A24’s active film slate.
• Review engagement letters and contract drafts prepared by outside counsel for crew and above-the-line talent, ensuring alignment with deal terms and production requirements.
• Assist with rights clearances, intellectual property analyses, and review of chain-of-title documentation for feature film productions.
• Maintain and update tracking systems and contract archives, including deal memos and legal correspondence across development and production.
• Research deal terms and contract precedent to support ongoing negotiations across film development and distribution agreements.
• Build and refine internal workflows and processes to support the legal and business affairs department as the company’s slate continues to grow.

What You Bring

• J.D. with a strong academic record and current membership in good standing with the California bar.
• One to three years of transactional experience in a film legal or business affairs department, or at an entertainment or big law firm. Entry-level candidates with relevant internship or summer associate experience will be considered.
• Working knowledge of contracts, intellectual property law, and the legal framework governing the entertainment industry.
• Proficiency in legal research databases and the Microsoft Office suite, with comfort learning company-specific software.
• Organizational skills sufficient to manage multiple deadlines across simultaneous film productions without losing detail on any single project.
