About the Role

The Hybrid Senior Groom TD works within a department that interfaces daily with modelling, rigging, animation, lighting, and CFX, meaning your grooms need to be production-ready at every stage of the post-production workflow. You’ll be translating reference materials onto fantasy creatures while staying faithful to real-world onset data, balancing artistic instinct with technical precision. Key Responsibilities

• Build photo-realistic hair and fur grooms for VFX projects, matching onset reference data to deliver shots that integrate cleanly with live-action footage.
• Translate concept and reference materials into believable creature grooms, covering everything from hero animals to fully fantastical characters.
• Maintain groom integrity through the animation and simulation pipeline, ensuring assets behave correctly under CFX and rigging constraints.
• Collaborate directly with the lighting department to confirm grooms render as intended under production lighting conditions.
• Troubleshoot technical issues within the grooming workflow, resolving intersections, density problems, and simulation instabilities before they reach downstream departments.
• Contribute to the development and documentation of grooming pipelines to support consistency across the VFX production team.

What You Bring

• Demonstrable experience as a senior groom artist within a professional VFX pipeline, with credits across feature film production or high-end television.
• Strong working knowledge of industry-standard grooming tools such as Houdini, Yeti, or XGen, with a clear understanding of how they sit within a broader VFX pipeline.
• A keen eye for naturalistic detail in hair, fur, and creature surfaces, backed by a solid reel showing photo-real results.
• Practical understanding of how grooms interact with rigging, animation, and simulation systems in production.
• Experience working from onset data, camera reference, and supervisor notes to hit specific technical and artistic targets.
