Company 3 is accepting general submissions for a Head of CG based in Vancouver, BC, with the role anticipated to open in the near future. This is a senior VFX leadership position responsible for the full CG pipeline output on episodic television series, covering asset creation, rigging, lighting, and FX through to final delivery. It suits an experienced CG Supervisor or Head of CG who has run high-volume episodic pipelines and knows what it takes to hit weekly turnovers without letting quality slip.
About the Role
The Head of CG sits at the top of the CG department within Company 3’s Curated business unit, overseeing all computer graphics output across television series production on an accelerated delivery schedule. The studio operates primarily on a Houdini pipeline with Karma and Solaris, so daily work is grounded in that ecosystem, from look-dev and simulation through to shot-level QC and episode turnover. On any given day, this person is resolving pipeline bottlenecks, reviewing artist work across concurrent episodes, and keeping the production partnership with the VFX Producer tight.
Key Responsibilities
- Define, maintain, and enforce standardized CG workflows and naming conventions across the episodic VFX pipeline to support high-volume, rapid-iteration production schedules.
- Establish non-negotiable quality standards for look-dev, lighting, and simulation assets to ensure shot-to-shot and episode-to-episode continuity when multiple artists are working in parallel.
- Manage and mentor CG Supervisors and Leads, keeping dailies and turnovers on schedule while developing the team’s technical capabilities.
- Serve as the highest escalation point for complex technical challenges, diagnosing and resolving VFX pipeline issues that are impacting deadlines.
- Oversee the development and deployment of custom tools and scripts that automate repetitive episodic tasks, including batch processing and automated QC checks.
- Champion modular, reusable CG asset development across episodes and seasons, and manage external vendor deliverables to ensure strict pipeline compliance.
What You Bring
- Extensive experience in VFX CG roles, with a meaningful portion of that time spent as a CG Supervisor or Head of CG on episodic television or streaming series production.
- Deep working knowledge of Houdini with Karma and Solaris, plus solid pipeline integration experience across Maya, Houdini, and renderers such as Arnold, V-Ray, or Redshift.
- Demonstrable track record delivering complex hero assets, including characters, creatures, and environments, under weekly production deadlines.
- Proven experience in VFX pipeline architecture and optimization, including batch processing workflows and automated quality control systems.
- Clear, direct communication skills under schedule pressure, with a reputation for managing risk and flagging delays before they become problems.
