Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Rodeo FX is hiring FX Artists at both the mid and senior level in Montreal, Canada. These roles sit inside the 3D pipeline and are responsible for producing photorealistic simulations including fire, smoke, fluid dynamics, destruction, and abstract effects for feature film and episodic television productions. If you have serious Houdini experience and want to work on effects-heavy shots at a studio with a strong VFX pipeline, this is a role worth looking at.

About the Role

The FX department at Rodeo FX works closely with CG supervision, lighting, layout, and compositing to bring complex simulations from initial brief through to final render. Day-to-day work involves building and managing Houdini setups, attending dailies, integrating feedback, and delivering optimized caches that hold up across the full post-production workflow. You will own your shots from setup to submission with a high degree of independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and deliver complex Houdini simulations covering Pyro, FLIP, RBD, and Vellum systems in line with the artistic and technical direction of each project.
  • Manage your own FX tasks from initial setup through cache delivery, ensuring files meet internal technical conventions before submission.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues within simulations quickly, flagging risks to production before they affect the schedule.
  • Check effect compatibility with layout, lighting, and compositing departments to ensure clean integration across the VFX pipeline.
  • Participate actively in dailies, absorb feedback constructively, and adapt simulations to the narrative pace and visual style of the scene.
  • Contribute to FX department documentation and share tools or techniques with colleagues to raise the level of the team.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience as an FX Artist on feature film, animation, or episodic television productions at mid or senior level.
  • Strong working command of Houdini across Pyro, FLIP, RBD, Vellum, and SOPs.
  • A track record of delivering cache-optimized, production-ready simulations under real deadline pressure.
  • Ability to give realistic time estimates and communicate clearly with leads and production coordinators.
  • Comfort working within a structured VFX pipeline alongside multiple departments simultaneously.

Why This Role

Rodeo FX has built a reputation across the industry for high-quality visual effects work on major film and television productions, with studios in Montreal, Quebec City, Los Angeles, and Paris. These are multiple open positions, which means genuine room to land at the level that fits your credits and experience.
