Animation TD

DNEG is hiring an Animation TD for their Mumbai, India studio, working across animated feature film production. This role sits inside the animation department pipeline, focused on debugging shots, developing tools, and keeping animators working at full capacity through technical support and workflow improvements. It suits a Pipeline TD or Technical Animator who wants to get closer to the creative side of a feature film production without stepping away from the technical end of the VFX pipeline.

About the Role

The Animation TD works alongside Anim Tech Supervisors, Pipe artists, Rigging, Layout, and CG Supervisors on an animated feature film at DNEG. Day to day, this means diagnosing shot-level animation issues, writing and testing tools that help animators work faster and more accurately, and bridging the gap between production technology teams and the artists on the floor. It is a role built for someone who understands both the craft of animation and the infrastructure that supports it.

Key Responsibilities

• Debug animation shots in collaboration with Anim Tech Supervisors and CG Supervisors, identifying and resolving pipeline and rig-related issues that block shot progress.
• Spec, develop, document, and test new animation tools as feature film production requirements evolve.
• Support animators directly, translating technical solutions into practical workflow improvements that lift the quality of on-screen performance.
• Work across animation-linked departments including Rigging and Layout to maintain continuity through the wider production pipeline.
• Contribute to pipeline development using Python and USD, with work carried out in a Linux environment.
• Assist in onboarding animators to new tools and proprietary software, including artists with limited technical background.

What You Bring

• Experience as a Pipeline TD with working knowledge of Python and USD, or as a Technical Animator with deep Maya expertise.
• Strong Maya skills, with working familiarity across other 3D software packages including Houdini and Katana.
• Solid understanding of Linux and Unix based operating systems as used in a professional VFX pipeline environment.
• A clear grasp of how the animation department connects to the broader production pipeline on a feature film.
• Understanding of physical motion, weight, balance, and form as they apply to animated performance.
