Job Type
ESPN is hiring a Content Producer based in Washington, D.C., to work directly on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt. This role sits within the live sports production workflow, responsible for developing and producing segments, highlights, teases, and bumps from concept through air-ready delivery across multiple platforms. It suits a producer with strong news judgment and hands-on episodic television experience who is comfortable owning content end-to-end.
About the Role
The Content Producer works inside the SportsCenter production unit, contributing to one of the most recognized franchises in sports broadcast television. Day-to-day production involves pitching and developing segment concepts, guiding editorial and highlight selection, coordinating with editors on pacing and story arc, and managing the Washington, D.C., office schedule and logistics. Remote productions are a regular part of this role, including Monday Night Football pre and post-game shows, where the producer handles on-site production challenges and coordinates travel for the group.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and pitch segment concepts, highlight packages, teases, and bumps in coordination with senior producers and coordinating producers within the sports broadcast production pipeline.
- Oversee content from initial research through final air-ready review, applying sports knowledge and news judgment at every stage of the production workflow.
- Guide staff on topic selection, writing, sound design choices, and shot selection to maintain editorial quality across all content formats.
- Travel on all remote shows with Scott Van Pelt, producing segments on location and managing logistical coordination for the production group.
- Write and review shot sheets, scripts, and tease copy in collaboration with the broader production staff to ensure accuracy and clarity.
- Coordinate with technical staff and editors to optimize delivery across multiple broadcast and digital platforms, adjusting content in real time when breaking news shifts the rundown.
What You Bring
- Demonstrated experience in live sports production or episodic television as a producer with full ownership of content from development through delivery.
- Mastery of sports news judgment and the ability to identify, develop, and shape stories under deadline pressure.
- Familiarity with broadcast production workflow, including scripting, editing oversight, graphics coordination, and rundown management.
- Experience producing on remote shoots, including live event coverage in high-volume sports broadcast environments.
- Strong writing skills across multiple formats, including tease copy, shot sheets, and long-form segment scripts.
Why This Role
ESPN is one of the few places where a Content Producer works at the intersection of live event production and marquee studio programming, with real editorial influence on a nationally broadcast show. The Washington, D.C., position connects directly to Monday Night Football coverage, offering consistent remote production experience alongside one of the most visible franchises in sports television. This is a staff role within The Walt Disney Company’s production infrastructure, with the stability and production resources that come with that organization.
