ILM Sydney is hiring an Animator to join their computer-generated animation team in Sydney, Australia. This role sits within ILM’s animation department, where the focus is on producing character, creature, and object animation at a feature film production quality level. About the Role

The Animator works under the supervision of Senior Animators and Animation Supervisors at ILM’s Sydney studio, contributing to shot work across active film projects in the facility’s slate. Day to day, that means taking shots from blocking through to final polish, attending dailies, and staying in step with a production team that moves at a project deadline pace. The work is CG animation in Maya, with some expectation of providing live-action reference performance to support shot development.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the full animation arc of assigned shots on a specific project, from initial blocking to final delivery within the VFX pipeline.
• Attend dailies regularly and contribute meaningful feedback on shot work across the animation team.
• Meet productivity benchmarks consistently without sacrificing the quality standard required at feature film level.
• Perform video reference recordings of physical performances to support your own shot work and assist other animators on the team.
• Contribute to aesthetic problem-solving on shots in collaboration with supervisors, proposing solutions grounded in animation principles.
• Complete additional CG animation tasks as assigned across the production, including tasks outside of your primary shot list.

What You Bring

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Traditional Animation with 3 years of CG animation experience, or at least 5 years working across cel, stop motion, or computer animation.
• Expert-level proficiency in Maya, including familiarity with proprietary animation tools used in high-end VFX production.
• Working knowledge of Linux is preferred.
• A reel demonstrating high-quality character and creature animation across feature film or comparable long-form production credits.
• Ability to perform and self-direct video reference as part of the animation process.
