About the Role

The Animation & VFX Studio Technician (Associate) works inside a dedicated animation studio context, supporting projects that span traditional frame-by-frame techniques through to digital VFX and compositing workflows. Day-to-day, this person keeps production resources running, assists with demonstrations across software and physical kit, and helps students troubleshoot their way through real production problems. The role sits close to academic staff and feeds directly into how students develop their craft across the full animation pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

• Support students working across stop-motion, 2D animation, and digital VFX production, helping them develop technical confidence at each stage of the workflow.
• Assist academic staff in delivering demonstrations covering software such as Toon Boom, Maya, Houdini, Nuke, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
• Maintain and troubleshoot animation studio equipment, including sound recording and post-production hardware, to keep production resources operational.
• Guide students through post-production workflows including compositing, effects rendering, and audio integration relevant to animation and VFX output.
• Monitor studio usage and advise on best practice for digital asset management within an animation pipeline environment.
• Identify recurring technical issues across software platforms and escalate or resolve them to minimise disruption to student production schedules.

What You Bring

• Practical experience working in an animation studio, VFX facility, or post-production environment at a technician or equivalent level.
• Working knowledge of industry-standard software including Toon Boom Harmony, Autodesk Maya, Houdini, Nuke, and Adobe Creative Suite applications.
• Familiarity with stop-motion production setups and traditional 2D animation processes alongside digital workflows.
• Experience supporting or training others in a technical capacity, whether on a production or in an educational setting.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve software and hardware issues under the time pressures common to production environments.
