Job Type
Vancouver Actors Guide is seeking performers for Baggage Handling, a short film shooting in Vancouver, BC. This is an acting role on a mixed media student production, with talent composited into 1:200 scale miniature sets to recreate an airport environment across multiple constructed scenes. The role suits early-career actors looking to build credits on a UBC Film Production program project with a technically ambitious approach to its production design.
About the Role
Baggage Handling is a short film production developed within the UBC Film Production program, using a combination of practical sets and miniature compositing work that gives the project a distinctive visual scope relative to most student short films. Actors will work across three 12-hour shoot days, December 4 through 6, performing on constructed sets with their footage integrated into scale miniature environments in post. This is volunteer work, standard for student short film production at this level, with meals and refreshments provided on all filming days.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scripted scenes on constructed sets, with footage intended for compositing into 1:200 scale miniature environments during post-production.
- Hit marks and maintain consistent eyelines to support the technical requirements of the compositing workflow across takes.
- Sustain performance continuity over 12-hour production days across all three shoot days.
- Collaborate with the student directing and camera team to accommodate the specific staging demands of mixed media short film production.
- Attend all scheduled shoot days from December 4 to 6, as the compressed schedule leaves no room for partial availability.
What You Bring
- On-camera acting experience, whether through student film production, indie shorts, or workshop credits.
- Comfort working on technically driven sets where camera and compositing requirements shape blocking decisions.
- Availability for all three consecutive shoot days in early December, with no overnight requirement.
- Current residence in or around Vancouver, BC.
- A headshot and demo reel ready to submit at the time of application.
Why This Role
Vancouver Actors Guide is a long-running free resource for the Vancouver acting community, and the productions listed through it represent a cross-section of the local short film and independent production landscape. Baggage Handling stands out within the student short film category for its mixed media production approach, which gives cast members material that looks different from a standard one-location student project. This is an unpaid, volunteer role with meals provided on filming days.
Apply now for the Baggage Handling role through Vancouver Actors Guide and get your headshot and reel in front of the production team before casting closes.
