News Production Assistant (PT)

Digital Remedy is hiring a part-time News Production Assistant at WEAR in Pensacola, Florida. This role sits on the broadcast production floor, supporting live news output across morning, evening, and weekend newscasts by operating cameras, running TelePrompter, and managing studio readiness. It is a solid entry point for someone coming out of a television or media program who wants real broadcast news workflow experience before moving into a full-time production role.

About the Role

The News Production Assistant works within the broadcast production team responsible for getting live newscasts to air on a daily basis. On any given shift, this person moves between floor managing, camera operation, and pre-show studio prep, the kind of multi-hat work that builds a broad technical foundation in live television production. The role averages 20 hours per week with a schedule that includes weekends.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate TelePrompter or studio camera during live morning, evening, and weekend newscasts.
• Floor manage broadcast productions, coordinating talent and crew positioning ahead of and during air.
• Handle studio and set preparation before each newscast, including lighting checks and maintenance.
• Greet and mic guests, ensuring talent is camera-ready before the broadcast goes live.
• Edit video content for webcast distribution as part of the station’s digital news output.
• Keep the studio clean and properly maintained to meet broadcast production standards between shifts.

What You Bring

• Some background in television production, broadcast journalism, or a related field through coursework or an internship.
• Comfort working with studio cameras and TelePrompter systems, or a willingness to learn through on-the-job training provided by the station.
• Availability to work weekends and occasional additional hours as live news production demands.
• Basic video editing skills applicable to a digital news or webcast workflow are a plus.

Why This Role

WEAR is a Sinclair-owned station, part of a broadcast group operating over 170 television stations nationwide, which means the production infrastructure and training resources here are more substantial than at an independent local outlet. For someone building a career in live television production or broadcast news, this News Production Assistant position offers genuine floor time and hands-on technical repetition. Digital Remedy provides training, making this a realistic starting point even for candidates with limited credits.
