Job Position(s): Senior Environment Artist - Houdini/VFX for Film & TV
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Outpost VFX in London is hiring a Senior Environment Artist with Houdini and VFX experience for film and television work. This role sits within the environments department, where you will build and deliver photoreal digital sets for high-end episodic and feature film production, working directly within a Houdini-based VFX pipeline. It suits a mid-to-senior level environment artist who is comfortable owning shots from asset integration through to final render-ready delivery.

About the Role

You will be embedded in the environments team at Outpost VFX, working across high-end episodic television and film projects that demand ultra-real set construction and environment simulation. Day to day, this means setting up and developing immersive CG environments inside Houdini, coordinating with asset teams on geometry and scene assembly, and feeding work downstream into Look Development and Lighting for final compositing. The role gives you genuine cross-department exposure, which is useful if you are looking to broaden your generalist skills within a post-production workflow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain photoreal CG environments within Houdini for use in high-end film and episodic television shots.
  • Collaborate with the asset team to integrate geometry and scene elements into coherent, production-ready environment setups.
  • Work closely with Look Development to ensure environments are properly shaded and material-ready for lighting passes.
  • Partner with the Lighting department to troubleshoot and refine environments within the established VFX pipeline.
  • Maintain scene organisation and technical standards across shots to support downstream departments in the post-production workflow.
  • Contribute to internal reviews and take on-set reference and production brief feedback through to final deliverable.

What You Bring

  • Demonstrable experience as an environment artist on high-end film or episodic television VFX projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of Houdini as a primary environment and procedural tool within a production pipeline.
  • Familiarity with Look Development and Lighting workflows, with the ability to prepare scenes for handoff across departments.
  • A portfolio of credits showing photoreal CG environment work in a professional VFX studio context.
  • Ability to manage multiple shots simultaneously while maintaining technical and creative consistency across a sequence.

Why This Role

Outpost VFX has built a reputation for high-end work across film and episodic television, and this Senior Environment Artist position sits at the centre of that output, not on the periphery. The studio places real emphasis on internal learning resources and access to online training, which means there is a genuine path to expanding your generalist skillset beyond environments. For a senior artist who wants production variety alongside structured development, this is a role worth taking seriously.
