DreamWorks Feature – Associate Editor

NBCUniversal is hiring a DreamWorks Feature Associate Editor to join the DreamWorks Animation editorial team in Glendale, Los Angeles. This role sits at the center of the animated feature post-production workflow, supporting the Lead Editor from early story reel assembly through final picture handover to sound and music. It is the right fit for an experienced animation editor who knows the full arc of a feature film production and can hold the creative thread across departments.

About the Role

The Associate Editor works within the editorial department on DreamWorks animated features, functioning as both a hands-on cutter and a department-facing liaison throughout production and post. Day to day, that means managing the edit suite, cutting temp music and sound effects for the story reel, attending screenings, and coordinating directly with Technical Directors, sound designers, composers, and audio houses. This is a hybrid position based out of the Glendale studio, with a minimum of three days per week on-site.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain the creative integrity of the film across all stages of animated feature production and post-production, from story reel through picture lock.
• Cut and supervise temp sound effects and music for the story reel in Avid Media Composer, keeping the cut in shape for director and studio screenings.
• Supervise and participate in scratch, production, and ADR dialogue recording sessions, coordinating with the voice cast and production team.
• Act as the primary editorial contact for Technical Directors during production, managing the technical handoff of assets into the post-production pipeline.
• Spot the final film with the sound designer and composer, and attend both temp and final mix sessions to represent the editorial department.
• Deliver the approved cut in the required format to sound and music departments on the designated handover date, ensuring all quality standards across audio and post houses are met.

What You Bring

• Five or more years of editing experience specifically in animation, with credits on animated feature film or long-form animation production.
• Deep working knowledge of Avid Media Composer, the standard NLE across the animation studio post-production workflow.
• Familiarity with Flix for storyboard editorial and Pro Tools for scratch recording sessions is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Linux or Unix operating systems within a studio pipeline environment is a plus.
• Proficiency with Photoshop for editorial support tasks rounds out the technical skill set.
