Lead 2D Supervisor — VFX Pipeline & Mentoring
- Full Time
- London, England, UK
Festybay
Festybay is hiring a Lead 2D Supervisor to join their VFX team in London, England. This role sits at the head of the 2D department, owning the full VFX pipeline from initial shot breakdown through to final delivery on film and episodic television projects across both their London and Bournemouth facilities. It suits an experienced compositing or 2D lead who is as comfortable mentoring mid-level artists as they are making technical pipeline decisions under a production deadline.
About the Role
The 2D department at Festybay handles visual effects output across a mixed slate of feature film and episodic work, and this supervisor role sits at the centre of that throughput. Day to day, you are reviewing shots, troubleshooting post-production workflow issues, signing off on artist output, and keeping the pipeline moving between departments. The scope covers both studios, so coordination and consistency across sites is a real part of the job.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all 2D VFX production from shot turnover through to final client delivery, maintaining quality and schedule across the full pipeline.
- Review compositor output at each stage of the post-production workflow, providing clear and actionable notes tied to brief and technical spec.
- Mentor 2D artists across experience levels, identifying individual development needs and building practical skills within the department.
- Identify and resolve VFX pipeline bottlenecks across the London and Bournemouth teams, implementing workflow improvements where needed.
- Liaise with production and VFX producers to track shot counts, flag risk, and manage scope changes without disrupting delivery schedules.
- Contribute to building an inclusive department culture where creative feedback flows both ways and artists feel accountable for their work.
What You Bring
- Proven supervisory experience within a VFX studio environment, with credits across film or episodic television production.
- Strong hands-on compositing background, with deep working knowledge of Nuke as your primary tool.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a 2D department across multiple simultaneous productions without losing shot-level oversight.
- Experience optimising VFX pipeline tools and processes, not just operating within them.
- A track record of mentoring artists and building team capability over a production cycle.
Why This Role
Festybay operates across two UK studios with a production slate that spans both long-form episodic television and feature film, giving a Lead 2D Supervisor genuine variety in the work rather than a single-genre grind. The company describes its culture as people-first, which in practical terms means the mentoring and team development side of this role carries real weight, not just the technical delivery side.
