Job Position(s): Pipeline ATD (VFX)
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

DNEG is hiring a Pipeline ATD (VFX) based in the United Kingdom. This role sits within the Production Technology department, where the Pipeline ATD works directly alongside senior Pipeline TDs to keep the tools, scripts, and workflows running across live VFX and feature animation productions. It suits someone early in their technical career who can hold their own in Python, thinks methodically under production pressure, and wants floor-level access to how a major VFX pipeline actually operates.

About the Role

DNEG’s Production Technology team supports projects ranging from blockbuster feature films to episodic television dramas, and the Pipeline ATD is the first point of contact when artists hit technical walls. Day to day, this means a mix of direct artist support, render farm monitoring, and contributing test feedback on software coming out of the R&D team. It is a genuine entry point into VFX pipeline work, with visibility across every stage of production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technical advice and troubleshooting support to artists working across active VFX and animation shows.
  • Monitor render farm performance, disk usage, and file transfers between studio sites to keep production moving without bottlenecks.
  • Design and write Python tools and scripts built specifically for the needs of individual productions.
  • Test new software releases from the R&D team and deliver clear, structured feedback to support the development cycle.
  • Translate technical problems accurately between Pipeline TDs and non-technical artists, keeping communication grounded and actionable.
  • Take on broader technical tasks with initiative as production demands shift across the post-production workflow.

What You Bring

  • Solid working knowledge of Linux in a production environment.
  • Practical Python scripting skills, with the ability to write tools that solve real production problems.
  • Good knowledge of Maya as a primary DCC package.
  • Familiarity with any of Houdini, Katana, Nuke, or Clarisse is a plus.
  • Previous experience in VFX, games, or a related industry is valued but not required for this entry-level position.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or a related field is useful but not a barrier to applying.

Why This Role

DNEG is one of the most decorated VFX studios in the industry, with credits spanning major studio tentpoles and prestige television, and this Pipeline ATD role puts you inside the production technology team that keeps it all running. The department has a clear progression path through Pipeline TD and Pipeline Supervisor levels, with potential to move into different specialisms across the company. The team draws from a wide range of backgrounds and countries, which shapes how problems get solved.
