Job Position(s): Cinematographer
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: $58,115/year

Submarine Entertainment, LLC is hiring a Cinematographer based in New York, NY to join their film production team. This role sits at the center of the camera department, responsible for translating script and story into a fully realized visual language from pre-production through to post. It suits a working DP who is comfortable owning creative decisions alongside a director and managing the technical demands of a production from day one.

About the Role

The Cinematographer at Submarine Entertainment works directly with the director to shape the visual approach across feature film production, from early location scouts through final color decisions in post. A typical day might move between reviewing test shots, coordinating with the grip and lighting crews, or consulting with post-production on how captured footage is holding up against the intended look. This is a hands-on role that requires someone who can operate across the full production workflow, not just on set.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze the screenplay and collaborate with the director to develop a coherent visual strategy that supports character and story structure.
  • Scout prospective locations and conduct research into sun position, weather conditions, and available props to inform cinematographic planning.
  • Select and source camera equipment, lenses, film stock, and crew members required to execute the visual plan within production parameters.
  • Run camera tests to determine optimal angles, filters, framing, and lighting setups before principal photography begins.
  • Work with the post-production team to ensure the intended mood and visual effects are preserved through the editorial and color pipeline.
  • Stay current with developments in cinematography technology, tools, and technique as they apply to contemporary film production.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in Cinematography, Film, Cinema and Television Arts, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience as a DP or camera operator on narrative or documentary productions.
  • Practical knowledge of lighting design, camera movement, and grip equipment in a professional production context.
  • Familiarity with post-production workflow and how on-set decisions affect the final image in editorial and color.
  • Strong communication skills when working with directors, department heads, and crew across all stages of production.
