Supervisor VFX
- Full Time
- Burbank, CA, US
Sphere Entertainment Group, LLC
Sphere Entertainment Group, LLC is hiring a Supervisor VFX to join its Sphere Studios team in Burbank, CA. This is a facility-based creative lead position responsible for overseeing the full VFX pipeline from preproduction through final delivery on immersive, high-frame-rate content designed for the largest LED screens ever built. The role suits a senior VFX professional with deep experience in both on-set supervision and post-production workflow who is equally comfortable leading projects and supporting outside creatives.
About the Role
Sphere Studios operates as the content delivery team for MSG Sphere projects, producing spherical, high-resolution media at a scale that doesn’t have a direct precedent in standard feature film production or episodic television. Day-to-day work spans breakdowns, budgeting, on-set data capture, and pipeline management, with domestic and international travel required when serving as the VFX representative on location. The person in this role moves between high-level creative decision-making and hands-on support for editorial, I/O, color, and pipeline teams as production demands shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the complete VFX pipeline from preproduction through delivery in close coordination with the VFX Producer and creative leads across all Sphere departments.
- Serve as on-set VFX Supervisor when required, capturing camera data, lens information, set measurements, HDRI, chrome balls, and color charts to support post-production.
- Supervise VFX breakdowns and contribute directly to budgeting and scheduling alongside production leadership.
- Communicate creative notes clearly to mixed audiences, including executives, directors, department heads, and colleagues without film production backgrounds.
- Mentor junior team members toward their daily deliverables and longer-term professional development within the VFX department.
- Ensure all work conforms to Sphere specifications for 360×60 and 180×60 spherical formats, maintaining immersive media standards throughout the post-production workflow.
What You Bring
- 10 or more years working as a VFX Supervisor on high-end production.
- Working knowledge of Nuke and Maya, with Unreal Engine, Notch, TouchDesigner, Baselight, and DaVinci Resolve considered a plus.
- Direct experience with previsualization, photogrammetry, and virtual production workflows.
- A thorough understanding of how on-set decisions affect lighting, tracking, stitching, editorial, and color in post.
- Prior work on immersive media, spherical production, or large-format content is strongly preferred.
Why This Role
Sphere Entertainment Group is producing content for a venue format that has no real equivalent in the current industry, which means the VFX Supervisor here is building methodology and standards rather than inheriting them. The production scale, the spherical format requirements, and the direct relationship with directors and executives make this a genuinely senior creative position with meaningful influence over how the work gets done. For a VFX professional looking to apply deep craft experience to a format at the edge of what post-production workflow currently handles, this is a substantive next step.
Apply now for the Supervisor VFX role at Sphere Entertainment Group, LLC and bring your VFX supervision experience to one of the most distinctive production environments in the industry today.
