Job Position(s): Senior Texture Artist - ILM London
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

ILM is hiring a Senior Texture Artist at its London studio, part of the Disney family of companies. This role sits within the texture department and is focused on delivering photorealistic surface work across digital doubles, creatures, and hard surface assets for feature film production. It suits an experienced texture artist with strong hero digi double credits and a working knowledge of established VFX pipeline environments.

About the Role

The Senior Texture Artist works embedded within ILM London’s production teams, collaborating daily with modelers, look-development TDs, and show supervision to push assets through to a photorealistic finish. The work spans digital humans and creature builds, pulling from photogrammetry data, procedural techniques, and hand-crafted detail to meet the demands of high-end feature film production. This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of two days on-site per week in London.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop hero digital double textures with the surface accuracy required for close-up scrutiny in feature film VFX production.
  • Build and refine textures for creature and hard surface assets, balancing procedural node-based approaches with hand-painted detail.
  • Work directly with photogrammetry data to extract and process reference for use in the texturing workflow.
  • Maintain asset consistency across a show by working closely with look-development and modeling teams within a shared VFX pipeline.
  • Address creative and technical feedback from lead texture artists and show supervision in a timely and organised manner.
  • Contribute to workflow improvements and knowledge sharing across the texture department to strengthen team practices.

What You Bring

  • Proven production credits in hero digi double work, with creature or hard surface texturing considered a strong asset.
  • Fluency in Mari within a production VFX pipeline environment is required.
  • Experience with Substance Designer or Substance Painter, and familiarity with Katana and Nuke, is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of UV mapping principles and photogrammetry data processing workflows.
  • A practical understanding of the full CG pipeline and how texture work feeds into look-development and compositing.

Why This Role

ILM carries one of the longest production histories in the VFX industry, and the London studio has been central to major feature film productions over the past decade. For a Senior Texture Artist focused on digital humans, this is a rare staff position inside a studio with the scale and supervision structure to support serious craft development. The production slate and pipeline depth here are genuinely difficult to find elsewhere in the UK market.
