Sony Pictures Entertainment is hiring a Manager, Visual Effects based out of Culver City, California. This role sits within Sony Pictures VFX and is responsible for owning the full production toolset pipeline, from proprietary tool development through vendor onboarding, workflow standardization, and financial tracking across live productions. It suits a production-side or vendor-side VFX professional who wants to move into an operational and strategic capacity within a major studio.

About the Role

The Manager, Visual Effects works across the Sony Pictures VFX department to bring order and consistency to production workflows from script through wrap. Day to day, this person is mapping cross-functional workflows, managing vendor relationships, supporting deal memo and contract packages with VFX Finance, and building the internal tools that keep productions running to spec. This is not a supervisory artist role, it is an operations and technology management role embedded in a working VFX production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and rollout of proprietary VFX production tools, including training and adoption tracking across the department.
  • Conduct workflow discovery with cross-functional teams to map VFX production and finance processes, then build standardized operating procedures that scale across multiple productions.
  • Develop structured bid comparisons and data-driven scoping insights that influence vendor selection and support cost efficiency in VFX post-production workflow.
  • Partner with VFX Finance to manage contract packages, deal memo generation, and vendor onboarding including NDA compliance with studio requirements.
  • Direct technology requests and access management through studio infrastructure resources, serving as the production-side point of contact for tech support.
  • Evaluate tool effectiveness using production data and team feedback, then maintain continuous improvement roadmaps that reflect real operational needs.

What You Bring

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in VFX, either on the show side or at a vendor facility, with working knowledge of feature film production or episodic television pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with ShotGrid, SyncSketch, and Cinesync in a production context.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Airtable, and Lucidchart for workflow documentation and team collaboration.
  • Scripting or automation knowledge in Python, Excel macros, VBA, Office Scripts, or Power Automate is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential vendor and talent information with discretion.

Why This Role

Sony Pictures Entertainment operates one of the most established VFX pipelines in the studio system, with a production slate that spans feature film and television at significant scale. The anticipated base salary for this position is $92,879 to $120,743, and the role may also qualify for annual incentive and comprehensive benefits. For a VFX professional looking to grow into studio operations and technology strategy, this is a substantive step with real scope.
