Williamsburg Tour Guide/Actor

Haunted Historical Walk LLC is hiring a Williamsburg Tour Guide/Actor to lead live historical walking tours in Williamsburg, VA. This is a performance-driven role in the live interpretation and experiential entertainment space, where the primary output is character-led storytelling that puts guests inside the history of Colonial Williamsburg. It suits performers with a background in stage acting, historical reenactment, or guided tour work who are comfortable commanding a live audience outdoors.

About the Role

The Williamsburg Tour Guide/Actor works within a small ensemble of performer-guides delivering scripted and semi-improvised walking tours centered on Williamsburg’s colonial and haunted history. Each tour runs as its own contained live performance, blending historical narration with character portrayal for mixed audiences including families, school groups, and adult guests. A typical shift involves stepping into multiple historical figures across a single tour while managing group logistics, pacing, and guest energy in a real outdoor environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Portray historical characters through embodied performance, using period-appropriate language and physical presence to ground guests in specific eras of Williamsburg history.
• Deliver scripted historical narration while adapting tone and pacing to suit the energy and age range of each tour group.
• Manage group movement through outdoor locations, keeping guests oriented, safe, and engaged across the full duration of each tour.
• Apply live storytelling techniques, including audience address, dramatic pause, and character voice, to build immersion during key historical moments.
• Maintain consistent performance quality across multiple back-to-back tours while managing personal energy and timing.
• Coordinate with other guides and company staff to ensure smooth scheduling and consistent guest experience across all Haunted Historical Walk offerings.

What You Bring

• Experience in stage performance, historical reenactment, improv theater, or professional tour guiding in a live entertainment context.
• Comfort with public speaking and character work in front of unscripted, unpredictable live audiences.
• Physical stamina for outdoor work across variable weather conditions, as tours operate in Williamsburg’s open-air historic district.
• Strong time management and the ability to keep a live tour on schedule without cutting into performance quality.
• Customer service instincts that translate into reading a crowd and adjusting in the moment.
