Project Type: TV Series
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

The Virginia Film Office is seeking a Puppeteer for a children’s show filming in Virginia from July through October 2025. This role sits within the performance and character work side of children’s television production, where the puppeteer brings scripted characters to life on camera through physical manipulation, voice work, and consistent character performance across a multi-month shoot. It suits a working puppeteer with on-set television credits who can sustain character integrity through a full production run.

About the Role

This is a paid engagement under the Virginia Film Office, supporting a children’s show production running July through October 2025 in Virginia. The puppeteer will work directly on set within the performance department, executing character work across episodic television production and coordinating closely with directors and the wider creative team to hit scripted beats. Day-to-day work involves rehearsal, camera-blocking with puppets, and maintaining consistent character voice and physicality across multiple shooting days.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform puppet characters on camera across scheduled production days throughout the July to October 2025 shoot period.
  • Maintain consistent character voice, physicality, and emotional performance across multiple episodes of children’s television production.
  • Attend rehearsals and work with the director to block puppet performance within the camera frame.
  • Collaborate with the art department and puppet fabrication team to understand the mechanics and rigging of each puppet used on set.
  • Take notes from production and adjust character performance to match script revisions or director feedback between takes.
  • Follow on-set production workflow including call times, turnaround requirements, and shoot-day scheduling across the full contract period.

What You Bring

  • Prior on-set puppetry credits in television production, children’s programming, or live-action film work.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform hand-rod, Muppet-style, or marionette puppetry depending on the show’s format requirements.
  • Experience working to camera and hitting marks within a standard episodic television production workflow.
  • Availability for the full July through October 2025 production period in Virginia.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding puppet work over full shooting days without compromising character consistency.

Why This Role

The Virginia Film Office posts only paid positions, and this puppeteer role is a paid engagement on a legitimate children’s show production with a clear four-month run. Virginia has a growing children’s and family production slate, and on-set credits in this format carry real weight for puppeteers building toward network and streaming television work. This is a substantive contract, not a day-player call.

Apply now for the Puppeteer position with the Virginia Film Office and bring your on-set performance experience to this Virginia children’s show production running July through October 2025.
