Project Type: Video Game
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Netflix is hiring a Technical Director for an unannounced cloud game title, based remotely across the USA. This role sits at the center of Netflix’s internal game development studio, owning the full technical architecture of a cloud-gaming production from prototype through live operations. It suits a senior engineering leader who has shipped high-fidelity games and is comfortable setting technical direction across cross-disciplinary studio teams.

About the Role

The Technical Director reports into the studio leads group alongside the Game Director, Creative Director, Art Director, and Executive Producer, functioning as the top engineering authority on an original cloud game project. Day to day, this person is making architecture decisions, reviewing systems design, profiling engine-layer performance, and keeping co-development partners technically aligned. The role spans the full production pipeline, from early prototyping through ongoing live ops, and requires genuine hands-on work alongside the leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end technical architecture for a cloud game title built on Unreal Engine 5 or Unity, covering system design, development processes, and technical documentation.
  • Hire and mentor an internal engineering team, setting code quality standards and building a culture that prioritizes performance, reliability, and optimization.
  • Champion integration with Netflix’s cloud-gaming platform technologies, positioning the studio as a front-runner for platform-level experimentation within the company.
  • Evaluate and manage external co-development partners, ensuring technical compatibility and clear lines of communication across co-dev pipelines.
  • Serve as the final escalation point for engineering challenges, including deep engine-layer debugging and performance profiling across prototype and production phases.
  • Continuously refine development tools and pipelines with a build-and-play-often approach to keep production moving at an agile pace.

What You Bring

  • 10 or more years developing and shipping high-fidelity games, with recent hands-on experience in Unreal Engine 5 or Unity and C++.
  • Demonstrated ability to profile and debug at the engine layer across complex, large-scale game systems.
  • Experience leading engineering teams across multiple simultaneous projects, including co-development relationships with external studios.
  • Familiarity with cloud-gaming infrastructure and the specific performance and architecture demands that come with it.
  • A track record of working within a studio leads structure, partnering directly with creative and production leadership.

Why This Role

Netflix is building original games as a core part of its entertainment offering, and this Technical Director position puts you at the ground floor of an unannounced title with the resources of one of the largest entertainment companies behind it. The internal studio operates with genuine creative ambition and the infrastructure to support it. This is a remote role open across the USA, with direct influence over both the technical and cultural foundation of a new game project.
