Job Position(s): Technical Director
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Disney is hiring a Technical Director to join its London-based production unit at Walt Disney Studios in Iver Heath, UK. This role sits within the Motion Picture Labs, a specialist group inside Studio Technology that builds and maintains the VFX production pipeline supporting feature film production. If you are a pipeline-focused technologist who moves comfortably between writing Python tools and talking a producer through a data transfer issue, this is built for you.

About the Role

The Technical Director works inside a VFX production environment, supporting artists, coordinators, and producers across the full span of a production’s technical needs. Day-to-day work ranges from pipeline engineering and tool development to frontline troubleshooting of post-production workflow issues, with close collaboration across time zones with the Los Angeles Technical Director team. This is a hands-on position that requires equal comfort at the code level and at the production desk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable tools and pipelines for VFX production using Python as the primary development language.
  • Provide production support across pipeline, tools, and data flow, troubleshooting issues as they arise for artists and production staff.
  • Administer and maintain the production tracking system in Flow Production Tracking (ShotGrid), keeping workflows accurate and current.
  • Support large-scale data transfers using platforms such as Signiant and Aspera, including operational troubleshooting during active productions.
  • Translate technical requirements into working solutions for non-technical stakeholders including producers and coordinators.
  • Document workflows, tools, and issues clearly in JIRA and internal communications to support cross-site continuity with the Los Angeles team.

What You Bring

  • Expert-level Python development with a strong track record building and maintaining VFX pipeline tools.
  • Deep working knowledge of Flow Production Tracking (ShotGrid) in a production environment.
  • Hands-on experience with review tools including RV and DaVinci Resolve.
  • Solid understanding of file systems, asset management, and production data infrastructure.
  • Experience with large data transfer platforms such as Signiant and Aspera is a strong advantage.
  • Web application development experience, FileMaker Pro knowledge, or additional programming languages beyond Python are all preferred.

Why This Role

Walt Disney Studios operates one of the most respected feature film production pipelines in the industry, and this position puts you inside the technical core of that operation at the Iver Heath facility. The Motion Picture Labs group works across research, development, and active production support, meaning the scope of problems you solve here is broader than a standard pipeline role. For a Technical Director who wants to work at scale on real productions, this is a serious posting.

Apply now for the Technical Director role at Disney and bring your VFX pipeline experience to one of the most recognised studios in feature film production.
