Job Type
Amazon MGM Studios is hiring a Software Development Engineer, Production and Post Production Technology, based in Culver City, CA. This role sits within the Studio in the Cloud Production Platform Engineering team, building and maintaining the AWS infrastructure that powers Editorial, Dailies, Color, VFX, Sound, Mastering, and Delivery workflows for active film and television productions. It suits an engineer who understands that the code they ship directly affects release schedules on productions worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
About the Role
The Production Platform Engineering team supports episodic series and feature films by moving post-production workflows entirely into the cloud, replacing the on-premises infrastructure that has defined the industry for decades. Day to day, this Software Development Engineer, Production and Post Production Technology writes infrastructure-as-code, scales existing post-production workflow systems, and troubleshoots issues that can block creative teams mid-production. The work spans VFX pipeline management, remote production tooling, sound mixing environments, QC, and final delivery systems built on AWS.
Key Responsibilities
- Build cloud-native capabilities for VFX rendering and management, sound mixing, QC, mastering, and remote production workflows using AWS compute, storage, and networking services.
- Translate complex post-production workflows into infrastructure-as-code using CloudFormation or CDK, ensuring editorial and conform pipelines scale reliably across productions.
- Troubleshoot full-stack production issues across network configurations and application-level bugs, diving as deep as needed to unblock creative teams on live productions.
- Design and implement secure infrastructure following AWS best practices covering encryption at-rest and in-transit, IAM policies, VPC design, and authentication mechanisms.
- Build self-service tools and automate operational tasks that reduce dependency on engineering intervention during active production cycles.
- Partner with Product Management and Production Technology teams to translate post-production workflow requirements into technical specifications and delivered solutions.
What You Bring
- Hands-on experience building and operating cloud infrastructure on AWS, with working knowledge of compute, storage, and networking services at scale.
- Proficiency writing infrastructure-as-code with CloudFormation or CDK in a production environment.
- Familiarity with post-production workflow terminology and pipeline stages, including Editorial, Dailies, Color, Conform, VFX, and Delivery.
- Experience designing IAM policies, VPC architecture, and encryption strategies that meet security requirements for high-value media workloads.
- A track record of owning systems end-to-end, including after-hours troubleshooting when production timelines are at stake.
Why This Role
Amazon MGM Studios operates one of the most active production slates in the industry, spanning Prime Video originals, theatrical features, and licensed content reaching hundreds of millions of viewers globally. The Software Development Engineer, Production and Post Production Technology role is one of relatively few engineering positions where the output directly shapes how major film and television content gets finished and delivered. The team is small enough that individual contributions are visible, and the infrastructure problems being solved at this scale have no established playbook.
Apply now for the Software Development Engineer, Production and Post Production Technology role at Amazon MGM Studios and bring your engineering depth to where cloud infrastructure meets the film industry.
