About the Role

Day to day, this means translating director and VFX supervisor intent into staged, camera-ready layouts that communicate scale, timing, and action to the wider production team. Key Responsibilities

• Build previz and post-viz layouts in Maya that accurately reflect the editorial and camera requirements provided by the VFX supervisor and director.
• Establish shot composition, lens choices, and staging to support narrative clarity across VFX sequences in episodic television and film projects.
• Work within the VFX pipeline to ensure layout outputs are clean, well-structured, and ready for handoff to animation, lighting, and compositing departments.
• Use Houdini where required to support procedural layout tasks or to work alongside FX elements within complex scene setups.
• Review cuts editorially and flag any staging or timing issues that would affect the viability of shots downstream in the post-production workflow.
• Mentor mid-level and junior layout artists on department standards, pipeline practices, and the principles of cinematic composition.

What You Bring

• Proven experience as a layout artist within a VFX studio environment, with credits on feature film or high-end episodic television productions.
• Strong working knowledge of Maya, with the ability to build and manage shot layouts efficiently within a structured VFX pipeline.
• Familiarity with Houdini at a level sufficient to operate within a mixed-software production environment.
• A demonstrable eye for composition, camera placement, and the storytelling principles that separate functional previz from genuinely useful previz.
• Ability to read and interpret editorial selects and director notes with minimal supervision at a senior level.
