Job Position(s): Production Tech
Project Type: Commercial
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

FOX Entertainment is hiring a Production Tech at its television station in Orlando, Florida. This role sits at the intersection of studio operations and master control, covering everything from live newscast support on the studio floor to running Evertz Mediator automation and managing on-air transmission. It suits a broadcast technician who is comfortable jumping between a camera headset and an MCR console within the same shift.

About the Role

This is a 10-week temporary position embedded in the production and operations department at a FOX Television Stations affiliate, supporting approximately 1,200 hours of local news output per week across AM and PM formats. Day-to-day work splits between prepping studio cameras, teleprompter, IFBs, and microphones before air, and operating master control systems to switch programming, commercials, and promos according to station log. The role demands someone who can read a live broadcast environment and respond to a director over headset without needing hand-holding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate studio cameras, audio board, and teleprompter during live news broadcasts and production tapings, taking directives from the director over headset in real time.
  • Conduct mic checks and IFB verification for talent and guests before every newscast, confirming frequencies, battery levels, and signal quality.
  • Run the Evertz Mediator automation system in master control, switching on-air programming, commercials, and promotional materials per station log.
  • Monitor video and audio levels to FCC specifications and troubleshoot transmission issues including signal loss during live broadcast operations.
  • Transfer programming and commercial content from server to automation, check segment timing, and flag any discrepancies to the supervisor before air.
  • Perform FCC compliance procedures, maintain Sony ELC show execution familiarity, and make minor repairs to IFBs, microphones, and monitors as needed.

What You Bring

  • Hands-on experience in broadcast television production or master control operations, ideally in a local news environment.
  • Working knowledge of Evertz Mediator automation systems and satellite receiver operation.
  • Familiarity with Sony ELC coding and studio equipment including lighting panels, audio boards, and teleprompter systems.
  • Ability to identify and communicate technical problems clearly to non-technical personnel during live broadcast workflow.
  • Comfort operating across both studio floor and MCR environments within a single shift structure.

Why This Role

FOX Television Stations operates 29 full-power broadcast stations, including outlets in 14 of the top 15 DMAs, giving this role real weight in a serious broadcast news operation. For a production technician looking to build credits across both live studio production and master control, few short-term contracts offer this breadth of hands-on broadcast experience. This is a 10-week engagement, so candidates should be available to commit to the full contract period.

Apply now for the Production Tech role at FOX Entertainment and bring your broadcast operations experience to one of the country’s largest local television networks.
